Training in an Artisan Craft: A Hands-On Learning Opportunity

Technical mastery, attention to detail, and the highly competitive quality that characterize handmade products can be acquired through specialized training. The Santo Domingo School of Arts and Crafts offers programs designed to transmit this knowledge with depth and sense of excellence and quality.

Learning a craft at the School is not just about acquiring a technique—it's about immersing yourself in a legacy of knowledge and excellence. Each program is designed to provide practical, profound, and transformative experiences, guided by expert instructors and tailored for those who value well-crafted work.

The School’s training modalities adapt to different schedules, allowing each person to explore, learn, or refine an artisan craft at their own pace and according to their goals.

Whether you're starting your training journey or strengthening existing skills, there are accessible options designed to support every stage of learning.

  • In-Depth Studies: Semester-Based Technical Training. Practical, intensive programs with a technical labor focus.

  • Open programs: short 6- or 8-day workshops (4 hours per day), access to certificate programs contents and intensive 1-month workshops with world-renowned master artisans.

Certificate programs

  • Intensive in-person training in 25 programs, totaling 864 hours (one academic year).

  • Structured in two 432-hour semesters, Monday to Friday, 4 hours per day.

  • Specialized programs focused on micro-processes, technical parameters, and quality standards, with an emphasis on artisanal excellence.

Also available:

  • Bookbinding: 624 hours over two semesters.

  • Dyeing: 624 hours in one intensive semester.

Upon completion, students receive a Technical Labor Certificate by Competency in their chosen craft.

Programs approved by the Bogotá Department of Education under Resolution 170017, dated November 27, 2024.

First Steps into the Crafts

  • In-person programs of 32 or 48 hours, ideal for exploring a specific technique, refining a particular skill, or experiencing artisan work for the first time.

International Masters Program

Each year, world-renowned artisans visit the School to lead intensive workshops in specialized techniques. These unique encounters connect knowledge, cultures, and approaches to excellence, and are open to students, alumni, and professionals in the field.

Registration and admission process

Below is a step-by-step guide for registration, general requirements, and the enrollment process according to the study modality.

Certificate programs

    • Be at least 16 years old

    • Academic certificate (minimum 9th grade completed and passed)

    • Applicant’s ID: Identity card, Citizenship ID, Foreigner ID, Visa, or Passport (for international students)

    • Guardian’s ID (only for minors)

    • Proof of active health insurance (EPS) – valid within the last 30 days (applies to both contributory and subsidized plans)

    • Front-facing photo with a white background

    3. Attend the interview and knowledge test (approx. 2 hours)

    4. Receive the results via email within two business days
