THE SCHOOL

We train entrepreneurs to be equipped to shape their professional futures successfully through craftsmanship.

History

Nestled in the heart of Bogotá’s historic center, the Santo Domingo School of Arts and Crafts was established in 1996 amid beautifully restored colonial architecture. Its purpose has always been clear: to educate specialized entrepreneurs in craftsmanship trades through its technical programs. Since its inception, the School has proudly graduated thousands of students who produce high-quality artisanal goods, play a crucial role in preserving traditional crafts, and successfully navigate competitive markets.

Architecture

The Santo Domingo School of Arts and Crafts benefits from a unique setting: three beautifully restored historic houses in Bogotá's city center. The blend of Colonial and Republican architecture has been carefully transformed to create ideal learning environments. Students thrive in functional and inspiring spaces, including well-equipped workshops for each craft, dedicated seminar rooms, convenient student services, and organized storage.

What we do and how we do it

The School’s Institutional Educational approach is a plan developed throughout the years that defines our institutional approach to education, grounded by our mission-driven principles.

It serves as a guiding framework for all aspects of student development while strengthening our pedagogical practices and charting a path toward unwavering academic excellence in the teaching and practice of Colombia’s traditional trades. This commitment ensures that our students receive the highest quality of education and training.

The School emphasizes on practical, hands-on learning. Rooted in the traditional master-apprentice relationship, students learn time-honored techniques while developing their unique artistic voices. It offers students a path to meaningful work and creative expression through the preservation of traditional crafts. We provide specialized training and a supportive community for aspiring artisans.
